Three Ships 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, South Africa 46.3%

Three Ships 12 Year Old is a Single Malt Whisky produced in South Africa. Distilled at the James Sedgwick Distillery in the heart of the Cape Winelands.

The James Sedgwick Distillery is named after Captain James Sedgwick who first sailed into the Cape as the master of the clipper “Undine” in 1850. Nine years later, he established J. Sedgwick & Co., purveyor of quality liquor, tobacco and cigars. In 1886, the distillery in Wellington, South Africa, was purchased and the rest is history. Today the distillery is owned by South African wine and spirits company Distell (who also own Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory distilleries in Scotland) and remains the only commercial whisky distillery in Africa. The much-awarded Master Distiller Andy Watts, who was named global Icon of Whisky Master Distiller/Master Blender for 2018, leads the distillery team who also produces Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky.

The Three Ships 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is the first release in the “Master Distiller’s Private Collection”. This is made from lighty peated malted barley distilled in copper pot stills in 2007 which has been aged for at least 12 years. The whisky is aged in a combination of older and younger small American ook barrels. During the ageing process the warm South african climate contributes to a much higher “Angel’s Share”. The interaction of the spirits, cask and atmosphere is accelerated in the warmer climate producing a whisky with depth of flavour, balance and extraordinary smoothness.

Bottled without non chill-filtered and with no colouring added at 46.3% ABV.
