Tenuta Fiorebelli & Orion Wines

Tenuta Fiorebelli is produced by Orion Wines, a small company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon with the premise of producing wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown.

Fiorebella: A Blend of Corvina & Merlot

Corvina and Merlot grapes for the Tenuta Fiorebelli are sourced from the heart of Veneto from low-yielding vineyards near the town of San Pietro in Cariano, in the province of Verona. They have an average age of 30 years. Corvina is one of the most important red grape varieties in the Veneto region, and it is used in many Valpolicella and Amarone wines.

Harvest and Drying of Grapes

The grapes for the Tenute Fiorebelli Fiorebella are hand-harvested in early October.

Some of the grapes are dried before vinification: around 60% of the grapes are placed into small, 5kg, wooden crates which are then placed into humidity and temperature-controlled lofts, called “fruttaio”, where they are left to dry until December.

During this time, the grapes will lose some 50% of their weight in water, thereby increasing the concentration of the grapes, producing more complexity in the finished wine. A process known as Appassimento.
