Pazo das Bruxas Albariño and Familia Torres
Familia Torres is one of Spain’s best-known family-owned wine producers, with a winemaking history rooted in Catalonia and a growing portfolio of vineyards and wineries across Spain and internationally, in Chile and California.
The Torres family combines traditional winemaking knowledge with investment in vineyard research, sustainability and innovation. In Galicia, the family established its Rías Baixas project around the historic Pazo Torre Penelas in Portas, Pontevedra, bringing its experience to one of Spain’s most distinctive white wine regions.
Pazo das Bruxas was Familia Torres’ first wine project in Rías Baixas, launched in 2012 by the fifth generation of the family. The wine takes its name from the Galician folklore surrounding the region’s historic pazos, or manor houses, where local legends tell of witches gathering among the forests and vineyards.
About Rías Baixas Albariño
Rías Baixas is Galicia’s leading appellation for Albariño, a variety celebrated for its naturally high acidity, aromatic intensity and ability to express the Atlantic-influenced character of the region.
The DO Rías Baixas is divided into five sub-regions: Val do Salnés, O Rosal, Condado do Tea, Ribeira do Ulla and Soutomaior. Pazo das Bruxas is made predominantly from grapes from Val do Salnés, the cool, Atlantic-influenced heartland of Albariño.
The region’s climate and soils help produce wines with impressive freshness and energy. Val do Salnés is particularly associated with granitic and sandy soils and a maritime influence, characteristics that contribute to the mineral and saline qualities often found in the area’s Albariños.
